چکیده

By means of Deep Inelastic Neutron Scattering we determined the temperature dependence of the proton kinetic energy in polycrystalline ice Ih between 5 K and 271 K. We compare our results with predictions form Path Integral quantum simulations and semiclassical quasi-harmonic models with phasedependent frequencies. The latter show the best agreement with the experiment if the librational contribution is properly taken into account. The kinetic energy increase with temperature in ice is also found to be approximately a factor 5 smaller than in the case of liquid water above room temperature, highlighting the role played by anharmonic quantum fluctuations in the two phases. 2013 Elsevier B.V. Ice and water droplets on graphite: a comparison of quantum and classical simulations.

Ice and water droplets on graphite have been studied by quantum path integral and classical molecular dynamics simulations. The point-charge q-TIP4P/F potential was used to model the interaction between flexible water molecules, while the water-graphite interaction was described by a Lennard-Jones potential previously used to reproduce the macroscopic contact angle of water droplets on graphite...

Molecular dynamics of ice-nanotube formation inside carbon nanotubes

The first order phase transition of a water cluster confined in a dynamic single-walled carbon nanotube is investigated using a classical molecular dynamics (MD) method. The formation of ice-nanotube is monitored through the structure factor and potential energies. The transition temperature and its diameter dependence obtained by the simulations agree well with those of previously reported exp...

Measurement and comparison of the temperature-dependence of refractive index of water and Plexiglas phantoms by interferometry method for their use in optical calorimetry

In radiation calorimetry by using laser beams and interferometry setups, variations induced by dose absorption in phantom can be precisely measured. Dose absorption and the induced temperature change result in refractive index variation of the material. In order to be able to measure the low amount of absorbed dose in the phantom, temperature dependence of refractive index of the material must ...

The Double-Pyramid Structure of Dendritic Ice Growing From Supercooled Water

It is known that ice growing freely from supercooled water has a morphological transition at T= -2.7C, from a flat dendritic structure at higher temperatures to a twelve-sided doublepyramid structure at lower temperatures. The double-pyramid structure, which can be described as two hollow six-sided pyramids joined at their apices, is built from dendrites growing in well defined growth direction...

Accelerated Stability and Chemical Kinetics of Ethanol Extracts of Fruit of Piper sarmentosum Using High Performance Liquid Chromatography

The extracts of Piper sarmentosum, a medicinal plant, are being used to prepare phytopharmaceuticals while the information about chemical kinetics of constituents of the extract is unavailable to assign precise shelf life (t90) and find optimum storage conditions of the product for patient safety, and to avoid economic repercussions of launching an unstable product. The extract was exposed to t...
